Hollywood sound is a whole different world from news sound. You wouldn't think so, but it is. With news it is almost always just me and my stuff. But on a motion picture set, it is lots of sound people working together. I'm back under the union's wet blanket again. Don't much care care for all those stupid rules. In news when you are out in the field you just do what needs to be done and we all go home sooner. Working on location in a major production is like working in the shop. If you aren't working under the right union you better not touch it. This apparently even comes down to handing someone a roll of gaff tape. Why does life have to be so damn complicated?

Healthcare Overtime!

I've been at the capitol since 5:00 a.m. I'll be here until well past nine. The money is good. The health care plan still sucks. One thing that really sucks about living in DC is that I don't have a congressional representative to complain to. But I did give an ear full to the few that asked me what thought. My tax guy says that since I am self employed I will get a double whammy in the taxes. This is based on the last estimates he saw out of his IRS and tax people news letters. I really hope that Rep. Pelosi and the President can't pull this off. I don't want to be forced on to a government plan.

Hawaii

I was going to spend a peaceful new years eve at home. Me and the cat. But no. Rush is in the hospital with chest pains. I'm in the airport waiting to go to Hawaii. Happy new year.

It is 2:53 in the morning. Most sane people are asleep. Most notsane people are asleep. But not me. Its TV all morning, all day and half the night. They are going to shit when they get my overtime bill. Should I sleep for an hour and then get up again, or should I simply shower, grab a monster and go back to the bureau? At least it is Saturday. Should be an early day. I should not have spent half the night on the phone when I could have caught a nap.

Health care, Afghanistan, Czars and now the war on Fox News. This could turn out to be my best year ever. Obama's idea that he will somehow make Fox News not count is backfiring. Since the White House has begun this latest campaign of bullshit Fox's ratings have been climbing every night. My friend uplinktruck told me that when ever someone tells him not to watch something he goes out and does that just to see what people don't want him to see. I think lots of people think the same way. It is funny to listen to all those White House people trying to persuade us that Fox is not a news organization. Even the other networks who all look down their nose at Fox are cringing at this tactic. Oh well more money for me.

The health care debate has been good for business. My union says that I am supposed to support it and that I should be making signs and going meetings and speaking out. Oh hell no!
